Decorative Toilet Seats

Decorative toilet seats can really brighten up the smallest room in the house. Most of us just put up with the same old ordinary toilet seat that was supplied with our original toilet. What a pity this is. With so many striking designs that are available to us these days there really is no excuse for doing nothing.

Designs may be printed onto the surface of the seat so that it can be seen as soon as you enter the room. Today’s designs are always colourful and interesting to look at. Printed designs work well on both plastic and wood based toilet seats. Favourite designs include dolphins and other sea life scenes. Patterns such as those using flames have also been used.

On wood there are animals such as moose , bears, huge salmon and white tail deer, which are very popular. These link the organic origins of wood with nature scenes of animals which may have lived in forests. With wood seats you may even find hand painted versions. These of course will be even more special.

Interesting patterns can also be moulded into the surface of plastic seats. This then gives the design image relief and makes it more interesting and eye catching.

In the case of wood patterns or images can be carved into the surface of the seat. The most unique and interesting are hand carved toilet seats in natural oak wood. These can have have depictions of anything from black bears, white tail deer, moose, rainbow trout, log cabins to black labradoor dogs. You may have to search to find these but you can be assured of a very unique product once you find one. You could even get a wood carver to make a totally unique carved toilet seat for you.

Decoration comes into its own when you consider acrylic and polymer toilet seats. These seats use transparent polymer materials to support the inclusion of objects which can be then seen inside the toilet seat. Some of these seats look absolutely fantastic. A common theme is that of the ocean floor showing fish and the sandy sea shore where sea shells and other sea life shaped objects such as sea horses, seafish and dolphins can be inserted into the polymer creating interesting patterns and arrangements. Other ideas include the use of gold stars, bubbles and even money! Of course the acrylic can also be coloured which adds an extra dimension to the scenes created. For example the use of bubbles in a transparent blue coloured polymer creates a very watery effect that looks very pleasing indeed. Modern polymers used in the best toilet seats are strong and do not yellow with age.

Measuring all of the seat dimensions before getting your toilet seat is very important. Use a tape measure to get the distance between the hinge post holes just behind the seat back. The general measurement between the hinge post holes is 5-1/2-Inches. Once you have got the hinge post hole distance and decided it is normal, you then find out if the bowl is round or elongated. You should measure from the front center of the bowl to the place just between the hinge post holes. The measurements for a round toilet are about 16 1/2-Inch. However, For an elongated toilet, the measurement is about 18 1/2-Inch.
